The Driveway.....

And so it begins.... the driveway...

So the week has come the driveway work is commencing. The whole plan started when we decided we wanted more space outside the front of the house for cars and we were not that keen on all the planting outside the lounge window. Therefore this only meant one thing we needed to widen the driveway. This lead to us getting quotes and agreeing the scope with our preferred contractor.

Before

Day 1 

What a difference a day makes. They cleared all the planting and the old tarmac. 

Day 2

This was levelling, completion of the wall foundations (even if I did have to ask them to change the angle of this slightly). And also the block paving edging! Looking like progress.

Day 3

This saw the wall become (mostly) built and further completion of the block paving. The wall itself uses breeze blocks for added support. Just the wall itself has made such a difference. Friday was mentioned as the day of completion, let see if that happens!

Day 4

Hopefully the penultimate day. The wall is really coming together along with the flower bed under the front window. Tomorrow will involve a bit of levelling off and finally the tarmac, plus all the little finishing touches!

Day 5

The final day (ish)! The driveway itself is finished and it looks fantastic. There is a little extra added detail in the corner at the front of the drive which was a nice touch the builders did. Breaks up the black of the tarmac. Tomorrow they are coming back to just finish tidying and putting some extra top soil in the planter and border.

Day 6 and beyond!

It took a couple more days due to weather to get the topsoil for the border under the window and the support the wall further, but its all finished. Fantastic job by the builders.
